The Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility (MIMS) and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) have signed the 2020-2021 Update of the Contratto di Programma 2017-2021 (Programme Contract: 2017-2020), for the Investment part, which provides for the allocation of additional resources worth approximately 31.7 billion euros under the Pnrr (National Resilience Plan). This was announced by Mims. New resources amounting to over 3.5 billion euros are earmarked for technological modernisation and 2.6 billion for the development of regional networks and the relaunch of local public transport, to which must be added 186 million euros for the restoration programme and reopening of tourist lines. A further 1.9 billion euros is earmarked for the strengthening and development of infrastructure in metropolitan areas. A great leap forward in the quality and quantity of rail capillary connections in Rome's network. In fact, it is planned to close the Rome north railway loop between the Rome-Viterbo FL3 line, the Tyrrhenian line and the 'freight' line (in the direction of Chiusi and Tiburtina). (This project would make it possible to increase the commercial offerings and create a service mainly for passenger transport. In particular, it will be possible to carry out the reactivation and doubling of the Valle Aurelia-Vigna Clara section; the new route between the Vigna Clara stop and the Val d'Ala station, including the new Tor di Quinto station which would make it possible to interchange with the Rome-Viterbo line run by Atac and the branch line to Roma Smistamento (Bivio Tor di Quinto); the new dual-track Vigna Clara-Tor di Quinto section, improvements to the Roma Tiburtina master plan and interconnection with the Roma - Grosseto line (Bivio Pineto).
