Future underground line G, works expected to begin in 2023

Translated by V. Zelada.

The Mobility committee met on Wednesday 3 August to discuss the future construction of line “G” of the underground, connecting Termini and Tor Vergata, expanding the railway line which currently connects Termini and Centocelle. This was made known in a press release by Giovanni Zannola and Mariano Angelucci, Chairmen of the Rome Mobility and Tourism committee respectively. They said, “all of the constraints for the realisation of the project have been overcome, and the work is expected to begin in 2023: 13 kilometres of new line and 22 new trams are a major opportunity for development. The objective is to connect the Eastern part of Rome, which suffers from a severe shortage of public transport infrastructures, with one of the main transport hubs of the capital, where travellers will be able to use buses, the underground, trams and taxis. “This is definitely an important and complex work which will improve the lives of more than half a million people who live in and travel to and from districts !, V and VI and will connect Rome Tor Vergata University to the rest of the city. Thanks to the requests made by citizens themselves, the project will also involve the refurbishment of via Antonio Ingegnoli, which will greatly benefit those living in Torrenova and Tor Vergata. A preliminary favourable opinion was given by the State Superintendence and the definitive project is currently being finalised. We hope to complete the first stretch of the new line between Tor Vergata and Parco Di Centocelle in time for the 2025 Jubilee. Recent months have seen much work done with the Mayor Mr. Gualtieri and the Assessor for Transport, Eugenio Patanè”, concluded Zannola and Angelucci.
