From Monday, November 4, 2019, all Tourist Bus Companies must have a parking ticket to park in the short and hourly parking areas dedicated to tourist buses in the area of Rome (from Monday to Sunday).
The parking areas are numbered and by going to the bus-dedicated multilingual parking machine and typing both the license plate of the vehicle and the number of the engaged parking area - visible at the top left or bottom right on the toll parking - the parking machine releases the ticket to be displayed, with the expiry time printed on it.
In order not to incur administrative penalties, tourist buses must leave the area within the time indicated as a “stop over”. The ticket is issued only to buses with a valid permit for the engaged parking area, otherwise the parking machine does not release a ticket and the bus must promptly leave the parking area.
When parking in the hourly parking area, it is possible to extend the 3 hours free parking - provided by the purchased permit. This can be done paying the hourly rate of 100 euros directly to the parking machine by credit card or ATM only.
In short-term parking areas, however, it is not possible to stop for longer than the 15 minutes free-parking provided by the purchased permit.
To simplify the entry operation you can download the app "Rome Bus Parking" (for Android and, from November onward, for iOS) and get the ticket digitally.
How it works: to activate the app, simply frame the QRCode of the permit with your smartphone and select the engaged parking area on the map. Then enter the same information needed for the parking machine (i.e.: license plate and parking number).
The app parking ticket - showing the same information printed on the paper ticket - can be shown to the Ticket Controllers and can only be issued when the bus stops on the chosen area.
N.B.: During a check of the Ticket Controllers, if the bus stopping in the parking area is not equipped with a paper or a virtual ticket, it is subject to the sanctioning process provided for by the Highway Code.
