Renewal works starting July 4 on Metro A and tram line 8"

Translated by V. Zelada.

Starting July 4, infrastructure renewal works on Metro Line A and Tram Line 8 will begin.

In particular, there are  plans to renew the track (tracks, switches and ballast) on the entire Line 8 and on the Ottaviano-Anagnina section of Metro A. Work on tram line 8 will be completed in 6 months; the construction site on metro A will be active  for 18 months.

Work on Metro A will be in the evenings only, from 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. To make room for the construction site, the Metro A line will be replaced by buses (along the entire Battistini-Anagnina section) starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, the Metro A schedule will be as usual: 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

For Line 8, work will be both day and night. The streetcars then, for 6 months, between Casaletto and Piazza Venezia will be fully replaced by buses.

"The municipal administration," explains the Capitoline Councillor for Transport, Eugenio Patanè, "as announced for some time, is following the program of maintenance works that had been budgeted on the subways and tramway sites, starting with streetcar line 8. The rebirth of public transport, on the other hand, can only begin from the rehabilitation and modernization of existing infrastructure. Infrastructure that, as stated many times, unfortunately suffers from years of delays and lack of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance.

"We are sorry for the inconveniences that citizens will have to face, but the priority is to ensure the safety of users and to restore to the city,  a quality of rail that matches that of a major European capital."
