CIVITAS CATALIST
The CIVITAS initiative (City-Vitality-Sostenibility) was launched in 2002. Its basic purpose is to support cities in introducing ambitious transportation measures and policies of sustainable urban mobility, with the aim of achieving a significant change in the allotment of means towards sustainable transportation, an achievable goal through the promotion of innovative policy-based technologies and strategies.
CIVITAS CATALIST was a project of the CIVITAS initiative which began in 2007 and ended in 2012 with the aim of validating and following up on the best initiatives of sustainable mobility developed in 2002-2006 as part of CIVITAS 1 (which was attended by 19 European cities).
During the period 2002-2006, at the beginning of the initiative, the Agency (then ATAC) and the Mobility Department of Roma Capitale coordinated the CIVITAS MIRACLES project.
Roma, in particular, was the ambassador of CIVITAS initiative in Europe on the "Access Control and Urban Pricing" subject.
CIVITAS is currently in its third phase; thanks to the initiative, the European Commission invested approximately 300 million euro, co-funding activities on sustainable mobility in 60 cities.
Thanks to CIVITAS CATALIST, it has been possible to increase the network of European cities belonging to the CIVITAS Forum and engaged in sustainable mobility initiatives. CATALIST has collected in his consortium the cities representative of the best examples in the field of Access Control (Rome), goods distribution (Gothenburg), Telematics and Transport (Toulouse), Collective Transport (Nantes), low polluting vehicles (Stockholm), "soft" measures (Graz).
